Falsettos Cast Spotlight: Music Director Laura Thomason

Falsettos Cast Spotlight: Music Director Laura Thomason

Proud Mary Theatre Company will present the Tony Award-winning musical Falsettos for six performances only October 29-30 in Spartanburg and November 5-6 in Greer.

With music and lyrics by William Finn and a book by William Finn and James Lapine, Falsettos marks the Upstate premiere of this 2016 Broadway revival about a dysfunctional Jewish family in late 1970s New York.

Falsettos includes such modern classics such as “Four Jews in a Room Bitching,” “My Father’s a Homo,” “I’m Breaking Down,” “I Never Wanted to Love You,” “Falsettoland,” “Love is Blind” and more and follows a married Jewish man (played by Brady Coyle-Smith) who leaves his wife for a younger guy, his wife, heir shrink, their son’s Bar Mitzvah, the lesbian professionals next door, and the arrival of AIDS.

Laura Thomason is music director of Falsettos. Laura holds a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Converse College and Indiana University, respectively. An accomplished performer, she has been heard both in the United States and abroad in opera, concert, recital, and oratorio venues. Ms. Thomason has been a featured young artist with GLOW Lyric Theatre, the Bassi-Brugnatelli Symposium, Operafestival di Roma, and Harrower Summer Opera Workshop, and has appeared as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah, the Vivaldi Gloria, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and the Saint-Saëns Oratorio de Noël. Her operatic experience includes the roles of Tessa in The Gondoliers, Betty Parris in The Crucible, the Sorceress in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and Charlotte in Massenet’s Werther, among others. In addition to her performing credits, Ms. Thomason maintains one of the largest and most sought after voice studios at the Lawson Academy of the Arts at Converse University and this year joined the faculty at USC Upstate and Anderson University as Adjunct Instructor of Voice for CCM and Musical Theatre majors. She is a veteran music director, having worked closely with the Spartanburg Youth Theatre for six consecutive seasons on musicals and summer camps such as Honk!, Jr., James and the Giant Peach, Seussical, Jr., and Broadway Bootcamp: Hamilton. Laura is thrilled to be music directing The Falsettos with Proud Mary Theatre Company and honored to share this experience with such a stellar cast. We are a tight-knit family!
