Proud Mary Theatre Company is pleased to announce that all The Boys from The Boys in the Band, our box office sensation in 2018, will re-unite once again for the sequel by Mart Crowley, The Boys From The Men. in a special virtual reunion production on Tuesday, July 28 @ 8 p.m.
All of our original cast members are back at the same New York apartment 35 years later after a funeral for Larry, who has died at of pancreatic cancer. And Director John Fagan returns to rein in this rowdy, lovable cast, as does stage manager Katherine Rausch (narrator/reader) and producer Sandy Staggs as producer/technical director.
Reprising their original roles for the sequel are Brady Coyle-Smith as Michael, Jon Kilpatrick as Harold, K. Ray Jones as Bernard, Brandon Mimnaugh as Emory, Benjamin Abrams as Hank, and Charlie Hyatt as Donald, the only remaining alcoholic.
Original cast members Holt McCarley (Larry, who is dead!) and Zachary Urban (Cowboy) return as new characters Jason (a young gay activist) and Scott (Michael’s pretty boy-toy) respectively, while Luke Browder (the straight guy Alan in our original play) will be making a special appearance.
And joining our testosterone cast is Adam Jones in his Proud Mary Theatre Company debut as the young Asian nurse Rick. Jones may be the new boy on the block but he earned rave reviews as Romeo in last summer’s Upstate Shakespeare Festival production in Falls Park on the Reedy in Greenville.
Brady Coyle-Smith (Michael) has been seen in numerous musicals in the Greenville-Spartanburg area and is excited to return to Proud Mary for this sequel to The Boys in the Band! Some favorite roles are Jack (Into the Woods), Sonny Malone (Xanadu), Gabe (Next to Normal), Hysterium (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum), the 8 characters he played in Spamalot, and this portrayal of Michael. Brady lives in Greenville with his husband and two children. To my fellow Boys, this journey has been so incredibly rewarding and terrifying – as Michael would say, “thank you…and fuck you.” To Tim and my kiddos, you are my world and I hope I make you proud!
Tickets for this special event start at $5 and are available at proudmarytheatre.com.
Donors will receive a Video Link and Password to view The Boys From The Men ONLY during our licensed 48-Hour Viewing Period: Tuesday, July 28 @ 8 pm – Thursday, July 30 @ 7:59 pm
This production is dedicated to playwright Mart Crowley, who died on March 7, 2020.
