Meet The Boys in The Band: Kevin Ray Jones

Proud Mary Theatre Company is pleased to announce that all The Boys from The Boys in the Band, our box office sensation in 2018, will re-unite once again for the sequel by Mart Crowley, The Boys From The Men. in a special virtual reunion production on Tuesday, July 28 @ 8 p.m. on our Vimeo channel.

All of our original cast members are back at the same New York apartment 35 years later after a funeral for Larry, who has died at of pancreatic cancer. And Director John Fagan returns to rein in this rowdy, lovable cast, as does stage manager Katherine Rausch (narrator/reader) and producer Sandy Staggs as producer/technical director.

Reprising their original roles for the sequel are Brady Coyle-Smith as Michael, Jon Kilpatrick as Harold, K. Ray Jones as Bernard, Brandon Mimnaugh as Emory, Benjamin Abrams as Hank, and Charlie Hyatt as Donald, the only remaining alcoholic.

Original cast members Holt McCarley (Larry, who is dead!) and Zachary Urban (Cowboy) return as new characters Jason (a young gay activist) and Scott (Michael’s pretty boy-toy) respectively, while Luke Browder (the straight guy Alan in our original play) will be making a special appearance.

K. Ray Jones (Bernard) is happy to be performing in Boys in the Band again with Proud Mary. Previously, he played Sebastian in SLT’s the Little Mermaid, before that he was seen as Black Fox/John Quincy Adams in the Warehouse Theatre’s, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. Although, you can normally see him at the Spartanburg Little Theatre, he’s a native of Birmingham, AL., and graduate of Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. He moved to Greenville a year ago to be part of Centre Stage’s Sister Act as Joey. Following that, Ray performed as Ernst in Spring Awakening (WT), Hud in HAIR (GLL), and Willy Lopez in Ghost (CST). When not onstage, Ray enjoys teaching K-8 Theatre at High Point Academy in Spartanburg, teaching spin class at Cyclebar Greenville, running Disney’s Princess races and traveling all over as a front man for his band and multiple bands with the Emerald Empire party band company. Ray would like to dedicate this performance to his best friend Jason, for always “telling him what even his best friends wouldn’t tell him”! You really do see a better version of me and I don’t know if I’ll ever get there, but I’m sure gonna try! Love you J!

And joining our testosterone-and bitchy barb-fueled cast is Adam Jones in his Proud Mary Theatre Company debut as the young Asian nurse Rick. Jones may be the new boy on the block but he earned rave reviews as Romeo in last summer’s Upstate Shakespeare Festival production in Falls Park on the Reedy in Greenville.

Tickets for this special event start at $5 and are available at proudmarytheatre.com.
Donors will receive a Video Link and Password to view The Boys From The Men ONLY during our licensed 48-Hour Viewing Period: Tuesday, July 28 @ 8 pm – Thursday, July 30 @ 7:59 pm

This production is dedicated to playwright Mart Crowley, who died on March 7, 2020.
