In our next Brand Spanking New Play Series production, Proud Mary Theatre Company is very proud to welcome back our company’s inaugural Director Robert Fuson as he presents It’s A Generational Thing, his exciting new mind-bending play about a middle aged Barbie and G.I. Joe premiering on our FACEBOOK PAGE @ 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 21.
In this surreal deconstruction of gender roles and their capitalist roots, G. I. Joe has “rescued” Barbie to his cabin. There, they go on a journey where they discover empathy, build a relationship, and raise a child together, all with no regard to the world they destroy around them. Satirical and visceral, this play will set your mind spinning.
Robert fuson (he/they) is a graduate of Furman University (2015) and the Warehouse Theatre Conservatory (2016) in Greenville, SC, where he worked professionally for several years before moving to Atlanta this past fall. He has had the joy and privilege of working as the Apprentice Company Manager for the past year. In Greenville, he primarily worked as a director, most notably the regional award-winning productions of I Am My Own Wife (Proud Mary) and Never Swim Alone (Guerrilla Shakespeare). He served as the Producing Artistic Director of Guerrilla Shakespeare Theatre Company from 2018-2019. As a multi-faceted artist, he has professional credits as a sound designer, an EMC stage manager and actor, and a writer. It’s a Generational Thing, is his first full length play and was read for the Playwrights South festival in June 2020. He thanks Proud Mary Theatre’s “Brand New Spanking Play Series” for this opportunity to hear this latest draft of the work. Additional information is available on his website, www.robertfuson.com.
